Biloxi, Mississippi, Aftermath, Part 2 (Approximately 6 min.)

This is the second installment from Biloxi, Mississippi.  The video starts going through town heading to the waterfront.  The second is the waterfront, minus the Casino Barges that appear on Part 1.  Note the piles of debris were more than 20 feet tall.  These shots were taken 3 or 4 weeks post storm and some clean-up has begun.

Lots of Rolling Shots (Approximately 7 min.)

After completing these other videos I was left with Lots of Rolling Footage that was left over and unused.  This is a mix of footage from Slidell, Louisiana, Biloxi, Mississippi, and points between.  Please excuse the shaky footage, we were rolling in a truck.  The tall damaged signs were on I-10 in Mississippi.  Set to Led Zeppelin's, No Quarter.

The Bridges of Katrina

This video is Named "The Bridges of Katrina".  It starts on Interstate 10 where large boats and barges have struck the bridge so hard that the spans are moved more than 4 feet.  The South span (East Bound) was badly damaged as it was bombarded during the storm.  The other span is fine as the first took all of the punishment.  This mess caused us to wait in line for hours to cross the single span.  The second half is views off of bridges in the area between Biloxi and Slidell.  It shows several marinas where the boats are piled up and the building are stripped below 10 feet.  This is our 8th installment and we have many more on the way.  Check out our Youtube Channel and Our Homepage www.HurricaneChaseExtreme.com  Providing Real Time Weather and Data.

Hurricane Charlie  >>>  North Fort Myers, Florida

This video was shot at a home in North Fort Myers, Florida, Friday August 13th, 2004 by a staff member's family.  This camera was located approximately 30 miles from the eye wall.  The storm passed to the north, over Upper Captiva (splitting it into two islands), through the north part of Pine Island then into Charlotte Harbor.  It eventually reached Arcadia, located well inland, and remained powerful enough to lay waste to much of the cities beautiful historic district.  This was a small storm and the devastation was limited to a narrow swath.  I compare it to a 15 mile wide tornado, it is remarkable, the damage is light until a point, then it suddenly becomes incredibly worse.  Luckily, North Fort Myers faired pretty well, with the exception of power, which was finally restored to outlying areas after 2 weeks or so.

Hurricane Katrina  >>>  Biloxi, Mississippi

This video was shot 3 weeks after Katrina.  Although most of the media attention is on New Orleans, I found that the damage in Biloxi, Mississippi was devastating.  In New Orleans they are dealing with flooded houses, in Biloxi the houses are gone!  I have hours of video and I will be presenting most of it in time.  This is the Biloxi waterfront.  Note the large structures remain, however, the destruction to smaller structures is nearly complete.  This video primarily focuses on damage caused by the 20' storm surge.  Of particular interest is the Casino Barges.  There are 3 in this video, however, there were others as well.   The barges were located 100 yards from the beach, laying primarily in parking lots.  Special Thanks to Tate Towing and Recovery in Fort Myers, Florida for their assistance on this project.

Hurricane Katrina  >>>  Slidell, Louisiana (St. Tammany Parish)   Part 1

This video is the first in a series of videos from Slidell, Louisiana which is situated on the northeast shore of Lake Pontchartrain.  This is located North (inland) of New Orleans in St. Tammany Parish.   This video was taken 4 weeks post storm.  Note the first half focuses on the washed up debris on the North side of  Lake Pontchartrain near Slidell.  About half of the debris seen here is floating, the other half is washed ashore for about a mile.  The second half of the video is primarily rolling shots of home sites.   All that is left is the poles.  Most of the debris is washed away from the home sites, and the buildings were picked clean by the storm surge.  Please excuse the shaky video, as we were required to keep moving and large portions of the roadway had been washed away.

Hurricane Katrina  >>>  Slidell, Louisiana (St. Tammany Parish)   Part 2

According to maps, the storm's eye passed directly over Picayune, MS, less the 20 miles away from Slidell.  Most of the old fishing camps that lined the lakefront north and south of I-10 were all but erased, with only the wood pilings remaining.  Reports are that there were around 1,000 dead fish in the city streets following the storm.  The town had a population of approximately 25,000 pre-storm, post storm numbers are still not available.  This video shows more of the "missing" lake front homes.  Of special note, I was surprised at the thousands of life preservers and ski vests that were hanging in the trees.   It is presumed that these floated from destroyed boats and became entangled in the trees because of the straps that are on all life preservers.  We observed many life vests more than 20' high hanging in the trees.  Again please excuse the crudeness of this video as the roads were a mess.

Hurricane Katrina  >>>  Slidell, Louisiana (St. Tammany Parish)   Part 3

This is the third video in the series.  This primarily shows the devastation along the waterfront communities of Slidell, Louisiana.   These shots are looking South toward New Orleans across Lake Pontchartrain.  Note the sections of the asphalt that are missing.  Again, you can see the numbers of life vests in the trees.   About a minute into this you will see an alligator that was crossing the road.

Hurricane Katrina  >>>  Slidell, Louisiana (St. Tammany Parish)   Part 4

The fourth installment starts with a couple of shaky zooms into the bayou.  The first is a boat stuck in the mud backwards, the second is a full sized cargo container stuck in the bayou.  These objects are a mile from the road we were on, please excuse the crude camera operation.  This camera has a great zoom, unfortunately, my arm is not as good.   You will also see a refrigerator stuck 20 feet up in a tree, and more life vests in trees.  Later, a back hoe is flipped over, despite the outriggers being deployed.   The end is more rolling shots of the water front.  Note several commercial buildings with the lower half removed.

Hurricane Wilma >>> North Fort Myers, Florida (With Audio)

Hurricane Wilma struck South of Naples Florida.  This is about 50 miles from North Fort Myers, the location in this video.  We did not experience the full wrath of this storm, however, we did receive Hurricane force gusts.  We were without power for about 5 days.  After surviving the August heat following Hurricane Charlie, we were prepared with generators and small air conditioners.  This storm was steered by a frontal boundary, this moved the storm further South away from us.  The best effect of this boundary was the nice blast of fall weather immediately following the storm.   I did not put music in this one as the audio track is pretty good.  You can barely hear the roar of the winds.  I have often been disappointed in the ability of audio recorders to capture that healthy throaty  roar that is present in these storms.  You hear the higher pitches, however, the lover range is virtually nonexistent.  This roar is felt as much as heard and if you have not experienced it, it is hard to accurately explain it.
